Launch of the Thai version of the APT Visits Guide and REDRESS Handbook on the occasion of the International Day in Support for Victims of Torture (26 June)
A two-day workshop on the methodology of visits to places of detention
Additional meetings with national NGOs to look into other related matters (ie. Prosecution of torture cases before courts)
Expected Outcome:
Ratification of the UNCAT by Thailand
Increased understanding by relevant authorities of what measures ought to be taken to fully implement the UNCAT
Increased understanding of the reporting process before the Committee against Torture
Identification of practical steps needed to be taken to further prevent torture in the country
Increased ability of the NHRC commissioners and staff to conduct visits to all types of places of detention and make sound recommendations on the basis of their observations
