Independent experts will provide training to all members of the Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture on mental health in places of deprivation of liberty. The training will conclude with a public roundup discussion with NGOs.
 

The objective of the event is to enhance SPT’s skills and efficiency in preventing torture and ill-treatment affecting persons with mental health concerns in the context of its field visits and to raise human rights standards and legal safeguards for this population. In addition to members of the SPT, panel speakers will include experts on mental health in places of deprivation of liberty.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 20 June 2012 (15:00 – 16:30) in Conference Room VII, Palais des Nations. The programme of the roundup discussion is available here.
