The APT is proud to launch a new application on our Torture Prevention Village learning platform – the Immersive Experience - developed in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The Immersive Experience is a 360-degree interactive environment designed for individuals who want to experience detention monitoring in a prison. This includes current or aspiring monitors, staff of national preventive mechanisms (NPMs) and national human rights institutions (NHRIs), academics and others.
It is an innovative tool that enables people to apply knowledge and enhance skills from existing courses on gender-sensitive monitoring and the fundamentals of detention monitoring through realistic simulation exercises.
The immersive environment is a valuable resource for developing and enhancing the capacity to monitor places of deprivation of liberty to prevent torture effectively.”
Key features of the Immersive Experience include:
- 360-degree environment: Offers a comprehensive visual experience of a detention facility.
- Interactive elements: this includes quizzes, branching scenarios, and markers to highlight key issues or areas that monitors should focus on during a visit.
- Simulation learning: Using simulated scenarios, the virtual environment helps learners prepare for real-life situations;
- Unlimited practice: The experiences are not graded, allowing users to practice as many times as needed.
Resources, such as further readings, allow users to dig deeper into issues related to detention monitoring, while the Virtual Café encourages people to share questions, comments and responses to strengthen the online learning community.
“The APT is thrilled to launch the Immersive Experience and we hope it will contribute to the collective efforts of monitoring bodies and allies around the world to prevent torture and ill-treatment,” said Jasmine Zik-Ikeorha, APT Senior Adviser, Learning, Development and Outreach.
“We are very grateful to the ICRC for their support and expertise in developing this innovative tool.”
