The Board of the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) is pleased to announce that Ms. Nicole Hogg will take on the role of Secretary General from 15 September 2024.

Former Deputy Head of the Legal Division for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Ms. Hogg has extensive experience in international humanitarian law, human rights and legal advisory roles. She also served as Legal Advisor to different units of the ICRC, including in the Asia-Pacific Region and the Arms Unit, as well as a Delegate to Palestine and Côte D’Ivoire. Ms Hogg earned her LLM from McGill University, and her Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts with a major in French from the University of Melbourne.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Nicole Hogg to the APT,” said Professor Robert Roth, President of the APT. “Her extensive legal and managerial experience, paired with her leadership and strategic planning skills, will truly be an asset in implementing the organisation’s mission to prevent torture and ill-treatment.”

The Board also wishes to extend its immense gratitude to Ms Barbara Bernath for serving as Secretary General for the past six years and wishes her all the best in her future endeavours.
