New Parliamentary Ombud Act (2021)
Norway ratified the OPCAT at the domestic level in May 2013 and deposited the instrument of ratification to the United Nations on 27 June 2013: it became the 69th State Party to the OPCAT.
The Parliamentary Ombudsman has been designated as the National Preventive Mechanism. A specific NPM department was created within the Ombudsman.

NPM Structure
An NPM department was created within the Parliamentary Ombudsman to perform the NPM tasks.
In June 2014, an advisory committee was established by the Parliamentary Ombudsman to provide advice to the NPM. It is composed of representatives of the Norwegian NHRI, NGOs and professional associations.
Annual reports
The Ombuds Institution publishes a separate annual report on the activities carried out as NPM. This is available on their website.
Other Reports
All visits reports of the Norwegian NPM are public. The institutions that have been visited are asked to inform the NPM about how they have followed up on the recommendations within a few months.
