Law on the Human Rights Commission (The Protection of Human Rights Act 19/1998 of February 1999)
Mauritius ratified the OPCAT on 21 June 2005. Following the 2007 visit of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture, the National Human Rights Commission was designated as the NPM.
In 2012, a specific NPM law was adopted, creating a specific NPM unit. Two additional bills reforming the Human Rights Commission were also adopted. The NPM unit started to be operational in June 2014.
The SPT conducted a visit to Mauritius in October 2007. The visit report has not been made public yet.

NPM Structure
A specific division was established within the National Human Rights Commission of Mauritius to assume the NPM functions.
