Togo

Togo ratified the OPCAT in July 2010 as a result of  one of the major APT’s activity in Africa, the April 2010 Dakar conference on prevention of torture. Since that, the APT is supporting national actors in the establishment of an effective NPM. In particular, given the government’s decision of designating the National Human Rights Commission as NPM, the APT is now accompanying the necessary reform process which shall enable the Commission to operate as NPM and to carry this mandate in an effective way.
