About us 

The Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) is an international non-governmental human rights organisation, founded in Geneva in 1977. It is the leading organisation on torture prevention globally. Our team comprises 10 staff members working at the Centre Jean-Jacques Gautier in Geneva and five colleagues based in different locations around the world.

 
About you

Motivated and strategic, you will lead the implementation of our communication strategy, supported by APT team members and in close coordination with our Senior Adviser for Strategic Communication. The Communication Adviser plays a pivotal role in ensuring our social media and digital communication connects globally with our partners and a growing body of supporters. Your experience in implementing all aspects of communication – messaging, writing, design and video, ideally in the non-profit sector – will help advance a fundamental human rights cause, led by a dynamic multicultural team, in an exceptional environment. 

 
Key responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate implementation of our communication strategy, with a focus on data analytics
  • Plan and manage APT’s social media communication on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
     
  • Maintain and update the APT website in three languages, publishing news articles, updating project documentation and refreshing key databases
     
  • Produce and distribute the APT’s electronic newsletter – the APT Reporter – in English, French and Spanish
     
  • Design visual content for social media, stakeholder engagement and community outreach, as well as posters and flyers as needed
     
  • Produce and distribute email communication for key stakeholders, as required
     
  • Coordinate the drafting and publication of the APT Annual Report, along with other APT reports and publications
     
  • Record video interviews; photograph APT events; and maintain a library of APT digital content

 

Requirements
  • Degree in communications, marketing, or other relevant studies
     
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in communications, ideally in the non-profit sector
     
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
     
  • Understanding of, and prior experience, managing social media accounts (LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook)
     
  • Strong command of web publishing tools to maintain and develop the APT website
     
  • Strong command of design, editing and publishing software (such as Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Canva)
     
  • Strong command of emailing tools, such as Mailchimp; as well as of online organisational tools, such as Monday and Sharepoint
     
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake data analysis to track and adapt social media strategy
     
  • Strong planning and delivery skills, with exceptional attention to detail
     
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and able to work independently
     
  • Be able to work as a member of a team and willing to contribute to a variety of tasks.
     
  • Strong interest in APT’s mandate and approach to torture prevention
     
  • Swiss or EU citizenship, or a valid work permit for Switzerland, at the time of application is a pre-requisite.

 

Assets
  • Good command of Drupal

  • Experience in video editing (Final Cut Pro X or Adode Premiere)
     
  • Experience in audio editing (Adobe Audition)
     
  • Knowledge of Spanish and/or French
