The Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) is an international non-governmental human rights organisation, founded in Geneva in 1977. It is the leading organisation on torture prevention globally. Our team comprises 10 staff members working at the Centre Jean-Jacques Gautier in Geneva and five colleagues based abroad. The APT is also acting as legal representative and therefore manages human resources for the Convention against Torture Initiative (CTI) composed of 4 staff. To learn more: www.apt.ch.

 

About you

Experienced, motivated and well organized, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth overall administrative functioning of the APT, and coordinate all human resources issues. You will work closely with the Secretary General, in close cooperation with the Finance Manager and supervise the Team Support and Office Administrator. You have a solid experience as an administrator or human resources officer, ideally in the non-profit sector.  You are ready to put it at the service of a well-established international non-governmental organization led by a dynamic multicultural team, in an exceptional environment and to help advance a fundamental human rights cause.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Overall management and supervision of APT administrative functioning; 
  • Lead the review, development and regular update of institutional policies, including human resources policies; 
  • Monitor and update any legal and policy developments in Geneva, Switzerland or EU relevant to administration of non-profit sector or human resources; 
  • Act as focal point for the team in Geneva and abroad on all human resources issues;
  • Support recruitment processes, adverts and interviews, contracts, permit application when relevant, and on-boarding processes; 
  • Coordinate annual review and appraisal systems, and proactively support personal development plans and well-being policies;  
  • Act as liaison person with IT external service provider

 

Requirements

  • BA or MA  in business, public administration or human resources or other relevant area
  • 10 years of experience in senior administrative position or as human resources officer, ideally in the non-profit sector;
  • Solid knowledge of Swiss labour law and administrative regulations;
  • Strong planning and delivery skills, with attention to detail;
  • Good interpersonal relations and communication skills, in French and English;
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and able to work autonomously and take the initiative;
  • Able to work as a member of a muti-cultural team; 
  • Willingness to contribute to a variety of tasks;
  • Interest in human rights and APT’s mandate and approach to torture prevention;
  • Swiss or EU citizenship, or a valid work permit for Switzerland, at the time of application is a pre-requisite.
