Reducing the use of mass imprisonment is to reduce the risk of torture and ill-treatment. The growth in the rate of imprisonment in Brazil needs to be addressed urgently. Thus, the APT expresses its support to the agenda of "16 proposals against mass imprisonment" elaborated by the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences (IBCCRIM), the National Prison Pastoral, the Association of Judges for Democracy (AJD), and the Center for Studies on Inequality and Discrimination of the University of Brasilia (CEDD/UNB).
