The role of lawyers in preventing and combating torture

On 25 June the APT participated in a conference organized by the international NGO 'Avocats Sans Frontières' on the role of the legal profession in combating torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. As part of a panel of experts, it in particular highlighted the normative framework and the role of lawyers in the prevention of torture.

The APT participated in a conference organized by the international NGO 'Avocats Sans Frontières' on the role of the legal profession in combating torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment. As part of a panel of experts, it in particular highlighted the normative framework and the role of lawyers in the prevention of torture.
Outcome:
This conference, which brought together international law experts and practitioners, aimed at providing a forum for reflection and the sharing of experience with a view to foster knowledge and contribute to a greater involvement of the legal profession in combating torture and other forms of ill-treatment.

Participants in this event included, among others, lawyers and legal professionals, academics, policy makers and representatives of several human rights NGOs.
