Roundtable on solitary confinement in Switzerland

Putting prisoners in solitary confinement can, depending on the duration, the justification and further circumstances, amount to ill-treatment and even torture.

On 26 June, the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, APT and Amnesty International Switzerland organised a well-attended roundtable in Bern, on the theme of solitary confinement and detention in maximum security, from a human rights perspective. This issue is also addressed in the recently released Annual Report of the National Commission for the Prevention of Torture (the Swiss NPM).
