One year since the designation of the Mauritanian NMP: major advances but still a long way to go

The APT visited Nouakchott on 20 and 21 April 2017 to support and strengthen the capacity of the Mauritanian National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) exactly a year after its designation. During the mission, the APT celebrated with the MNP’s President and members the first anniversary of their appointment, in the presence of representatives of the Mauritanian authorities as well as national and international human rights NGOs. The APT also organised a workshop with the NPM to discuss key issues that fall within the preventive mandate, including in terms of strategy, programme of visits, reporting and follow-up.
