New Chief of Operations for the APT

Barbara BernathThe Association for the Prevention of Torture is very pleased to announce that Ms Barbara Bernath has been appointed the new Chief of Operations at the APT. She will assume her new responsibilities as of 1 September. Ms Bernath is a Swiss and French national, and has a Masters in International Law from the Graduate Institute of Geneva.

 

 

 

 

The Association for the Prevention of Torture is very pleased to announce that Ms Barbara Bernath has been appointed the new Chief of Operations at the APT. She will assume her new responsibilities as of 1 September. Ms Bernath is a Swiss and French national. She has a Masters in International Law from the Graduate Institute of Geneva. She has extensive experience in prevention of torture and monitoring places of detention, on which she has written several guides. She has conducted detention monitoring training courses in different parts of the world and human rights courses for the Police in Switzerland. She has worked for the APT since 1997 (initially as Europe Programme Officer) and previously worked with ICRC (Colombia) and the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs (Bern). Ms Bernath speaks French, English, Spanish and German.  

The Chief of Operations will play an eminent and authoritative role in the delivery of APT’s services in the prevention of torture throughout the world. The Chief of Operations will coordinate the planning and implementation of all APT regional and thematic  programmes and report directly to the APT Secretary General.
